2nd Anniversary trip to Santorini Greece

For our 2nd anniversary, Sam and I decided to head to Santorini Greece. This was a place I had always dreamt about visiting. I even have pictures from an old calendar of Santorini that I have framed and hung in our house because I've always thought it was so beautiful. It was an amazing trip to say the least. The whole time we were there, I kept telling Sam that I felt like I was inside a postcard. :) We had such a great time. Lots of fun adventures as you'll see in some of our pics. We both went into this trip expecting to have a nice and relaxing time but got so much more...lets just say that I didn't expect to climb 500 plus stairs a day. At least I have some pretty sweet leg muscles to prove it though. :)

Waiting to board our plane in London...I was super tired.
We left our house in Cambridge at 2 in the morning since our
plane left at 6. So this coffee was much needed.

Ahh good 'ol caffeine

The Alps?

We finally arrived!!

Our first view of Santorini..
breath-taking is an understatement

On our walk to our villa in Firostefani
(a little village in Santorini)
So excited to be inside my postcard ;)

One of the ports in Santorini, way down the cliff.
This one was in Fira, the town next to Firostefani,
and where we would later
board our boat tour.

Need food!
Our first taste of the most delicious food ever!
Why can't England get with it and have some good food?!

I could look at the view all day long.
Absolutely beautiful!

The view from our own private terrace/balcony
This is what I got to wake up to everyday!

Our balcony...
And sam maintaining position :)

View down, somewhere in Fira

Firostefani

On our walk to Fira

Fira at night
Pictures just don't capture how pretty it was

Our mode of transportation while we were there
Sam was in heaven. :)
This is on our 2nd day, driving up to check out Oia,
on the very north end of the island.

My postcard :)
(In Oia)

Thats Firostefani (where we stayed) up on the cliff
and on the other side of that cliff is Fira

My favorite view in the whole island.
I seriously could look at this all day.

So cool lookin I thought. These blue domes were all over
the island. I believe they are all churches.

Exploring in Oia

Oia's port.
We drove down there later on that day

I was trying to have a photographer moment,
notice how I framed the pic with the Greece flag ;)

At a look out point in Oia

Oia again
(I thought Oia was the most picturesque, absolutely gorgeous)

They had these bell towers all over the place,
some were in the most random places I thought

Oia

The path down to the port of Oia

This made me smile, I asked Sam if he wanted to
relive our moment here...he just laughed.
And then he asked and I turned him down :)
But he knows I was just kidding...I'd marry him
all over again if I could.

So pretty

Some lady pointed out that I matched the flowers,
so I had to get my pic by them then :)

And another bell tower...
we never did find out what they were there for

Shops in Oia

I just noticed what our license plate said
Haha, cute.

Port in Oia

Look at that water!!

Me and my prince charmin :)

Awe and our view from our room...

View up from our terrace

And our view yet again... :)

It was so hot, so we decided to get some smoothies
(notice the beginning of my sunburn...arg)

Exploring the south part of the island, we found a Kamari Beach
No sand though, all rock

Kamari Beach

Our first Greecian sunset...
so romantic :)

There were all kinds of stray dogs and cats all over the island
and our hotel had a few little cats themselves that hung out.
This one followed us to our room one night and I wanted to give it some food
but sam wouldn't let me. :( Plus all we had to give it was a luna bar.
Sam wouldn't even pet it though..he said it would be like cheating on our boys.
Such a dork...but I felt sad for this kitty.

The 3rd day we got up early to head down the cliff to
the port of Fira for our boat tour. We were going to
explore the volcano island, go swimming in the hot springs and ocean,
have lunch on a different island called Thirassia, and then head back.

We opted to take the cable cars down,
cause the steep stairs down the cliffside didn't sound like to much fun,
plus I had had enough of stairs by this point anyways...

On our boat, ready to head out to the volcano...
little did we know what were about to experience...

still excited at this point...

Volcano Island:
aka kinda what I think hell might be like

Our "pirate" boat

Let the misery begin...

The walk to the volcano was hot and miserable to say the least.
My legs were so stinkin sore to begin with (thanks to all the stairs
we had to climb to and from our room and all over town) and then this "hike"
about sent me over the edge. Plus no one told us it was a "hike", so we just
wore flip flops, not good for hiking to say the least. But once at the top of this volcano
mountain, the view was pretty amazing.

The trail...it never seemed to end

Holy moly...

Almost there...maybe??

All for this??!!

And this??! At least it had some smoke coming out of it,
kinda cool I guess. Arg...

Ready to go swimming after that hike

Awe, time for swimming!!

And more swimming

Port of Thirassia, where we had lunch

Our captain recommended that everyone go to this one restaurant,
well we decided to branch out and go somewhere else since there
were so many people and plus no one went to this one, and we felt bad
so we decided to eat there. And it was yummy!

Exploring Thirassia

Sam or Hercules?

Check out this squid!

One of the restaurants BBQ

There's Santorini, way over there

I do love my ice cream! :)

So delicious!!

The water over in Thirassia was perfect

After lunch we enjoyed our ice cream cones while
sitting with our feet in the clearest bluest water

Perfect!

Once we docked back in Fira, we got talked into riding
the donkeys back up the cliff...quite the experience.
I felt really bad for them though..thats not an easy task to do plus
I never saw the owners give any of them water afterwards. :(

Awe another sunset

Just a couple of redskins :)

The next day, we just relaxed in our room and enjoyed our
balcony. Then we got all dolled up for our anniversary dinner.
And well, I guess all the limos were taken,
cause this is how we got to dinner :)

Our view from our anniversary dinner in Oia

The restaurant

A perfect evening to spend with the love of my life,
I can't believe its already been 2 years!

Amazing food, amazing wine, amazing view, and an
amazing hubby! I'm a lucky girl!

Yes, we tried octopus. And might I say,
it was SO good! Who knew?!

View from dinner

I just couldn't get enough of the view

View from our table

Awe...a perfect anniversary!

Our friend who decided to celebrate with us

Watching the sunset...

Love him!!

Best 2 years so far!!

View down from where we were sitting at dinner

Oia at night...
just doesn't do it justice

We went to a little cafe in Oia after dinner for dessert.
We decided to both try a chocolate and banana crepe.
Pretty yummy!

Our last day, we decided to do some more exploring on the island
and then head to the beach. We went up to the top of one of the southern cliffs to find these
old windmills. Kinda cool I guess.

Time to head to the beach! Yay for beach day!
(we were on the 4 wheeler)

Perissa Beach

Pretty nice black sand/rock beach, european style ;)
(and for those who don't catch my drift, well let just say
we saw some boobs...)

Awe...so pretty

Not to shabby :)

Our walk down to our room

Just the beginning of the trek to our room..
But totally worth it, cause we had an amazing view!

Thanks to a strike with the airlines, our flight was delayed
by more than 15 hours...I think we finally took off Wednesday at 4 am...
yes we were suppose to leave tuesday at 1 pm...
We were kinda tired here at the 'ol Santorini airport and
sam, well I think his face says it all :)
